Canberra – Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre

Coffs Harbour – 3 Bears Cottage
For this Children’s Day, we have shared the order of proceedings:
10am – Story telling with our Aboriginal parent Kiyah Donovan with the Toddler and Preschool age groups.
11am – Aboriginal culture activities with the children and Educators.
11am – Making damper with the children and Educators.
3pm – A Fire Pit with our children, Educators and families to cook the damper and eat it.
This program will incorporate community involvement, family involvement and connecting to country.

Concord – Wellbank Children’s Centre
Wellbank Children’s Centre will be celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Day on Monday 6th August with a picnic lunch at the local park.

Inconjunction with Mission Australia Goulburn, Goulburn Community Health Centre and Aboriginal Health Goulburn Community Health Centre we will be hosting a morning tea to Celebrate this event.

Kelso – Building Strong Foundations
This will be the fourth year that the BSF team as well as AMIHS and Reference Group committee will be holding Children’s Day. This year’s activities included dancers, traditional games, face-painting, singing songs in Wiradjuri, a colouring-in competition as well as BBQ and CRL footy skills. The event to be held at Kelso Community Hub in Kelso.

Karabar – Karabar Preschool
We are having Larry Brandy come in to do a presentation for the children around Indigenous culture; we have an Educator with Aboriginal heritage who will share some of her stories with the children; we will invite families to join us for a Sausage Sizzle afternoon tea. We have received our Children’s Bags to share with the children.

Moruya – Eurobodalla Shire Council
The Council’s children’s services is hosting a free family-friendly event featuring a range of activities including traditional games, dancing and story time, visits from local police, fire fighters and health services. There will be free food and drink. Each child will also receive a Children’s Day bag. The event will be held at the Riverside Park on Thursday 2 August. Bookings are essential.

Holding a Koori Children’s Day at Boori Pre-School. This event will include a Flag Raising ceremony, smoking ceremony, Welcome to Country & dancing, arts & craft, drumbeat, Gunyah arts & craft, face painting, pet therapy, a BBQ lunch and sharing SNAICC Bags with children.

Yarrawong will be hosting a morning event at their service. Supported playgroups will be joining them. Some local school dance troupes will be coming to showcase their dances with the children and families. Local elders and Aboriginal medicals service staff will also be attending the morning of games and a BBQ lunch.

Scotts Head – Giiguy Gamambi Preschool and Lifetime Connect
To celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day on 4th August, Giiguy Gamambi Preschool, in partnership with Lifetime Connect are delivering a ‘Mini Olympics’ day at Buz Brazel Oval Scotts Head. 10am – 2pm. Friday 3rd August – for children up to 6 years old and their families in the Nambucca Valley. Uncle Ritchie Donovan will lead the activities, and all early years services attending will participate by supplying and running a physical activity.

Wallaga Lake – Little Yuin Aboriginal Preschool
Held on 8th August, we will host a family BBQ held at the preschool.
There will be 3-4 Cultural activities throughout the day – facilitated by local community Aboriginal artists/story keepers. A launch of children’s songs in Durgha language, including a copy on a memory stick with a flyer for the families to take home.
(This was a program that ran during term 2, OT students created a few songs in language for the preschool and we will launch it this day) Gadhu (Aboriginal health service) are providing the food/BBQ, including volunteers. Narooma News – our local paper will attend and publish an article in the paper.
